Monday – starving all day!

February 3, 2009

Hey Guys!

I have no idea why, but on Monday I was starving alllllll day long! Could it have been a delayed reaction to the race? I don’t think so…

I started off with some Heart Healthy Blueberry oatmeal from Trader Joe’s. It was one packet of instant oatmeal, and I added a tablespoon of Barney Butter. I had this at 8:30 or so and by 10am I was hungry again :(

Before lunch I had already eaten my afternoon snack… Trader Joe’s trail mix. Dark chocolate, raisins, cashews, and almonds. It was a fourth of a cup – and it was super good!

For lunch I had an variety of food!

Everything crackers, garlic hummus, Oikos Greek Yogurt (our grocery store had a few finally), and carrots.  I packed my lunch on Sunday night… I’m thinking that because I was sort of full post-Super Bowl, I thought that this was a lot of food at the time… by lunch time on Monday, it did not seem like a lot!

Due to a small lunch, the candy jar struck again! I had a mini Starburst (two pieces) and a mini Twizzler package! Later I had two little tootsie rolls!

I was so excited for the end of the day! I picked Ben up at South Station and we commuted home together. Once we got home Ben played with Daisy and started our laundry – and I did half an hour of yoga and abs.

Post-exercise, I started dinner. Tonight we had TJ’s chicken pot stickers, jasmine rice and a mixture of broccoli & cauliflower. YUM.

At around 8:30 or 9pm last night I made myself a little mug of hot chocolate with mini-marshmallows. Yum.

I think the hot milk helped me fall asleep into a lovely night’s sleep.

:) I hope you are all having a great start to your week!

Snowed in Sunday?

January 18, 2009

Hey ya’ll -

Wow – it is snowing today! I was hoping to drive down to my mom’s house today but the way it has been snowing, I think I might have to go tomorrow morning!

I had a great night’s sleep – fantastic! I woke up pretty early, and started my morning by doing yoga and ab crunches. I was on the yoga mat, exercising for 35 minutes.  After I finished up with some stretches.

The first thing I enjoyed today was a great cup of hot tea and a large glass of water to get myself hydrated for the day.

In case you were wondering, Daisy also woke up very refreshed and energetic this morning! Daisy and I spent a good deal of time today playing fetch. Once she was done, she made herself at home on the semi-folded up yoga mat… :)

After yoga, fetch and tea, I refreshed my oats from yesterday. I added a good amount of soy milk to re-hydrate the oats and popped them in the microwave for about 45 seconds.

I added a couple of slivered almonds, raisins, a few chocolate chips, TJ’s ground flax seed, and a spoon of Barney Butter into the oats. Yum.

I am now enjoying Meet the Press with Tom Brokaw and Doris Kearns Goodwin (two of my favorites!) and I am beginning to think about the fact that I will have to go out and shovel after MTP wraps up. Yuck.

Monday

Hi Everyone -

Did you all survive your Monday? Hope so. I had a pretty good day at work, and so far I’ve achieved quite a few things off of my post-work to do list – always a good feeling on a Monday. :)

I was running a little bit behind this morning, and was helped a lot by Ben bringing me a cup of coffee while I was still in bed. If it was not for that coffee, I might not have gotten up this morning ;)

For breakfast I had a Luna Bar.  It was a new flavor to me – and I liked it a lot. I really love the Luna Bars that do not have Chocolate in them – especially when I am eating one for breakfast. This bar was from my Christmas stocking and it was Toasted Nuts N Cranberry. Give it a try if you see it out there one day! It was a pretty good breakfast, with 180 calories 4 grams of fat, 3 grams of fiber, and ten great grams of protein. I had the bar at 8:30 this morning (I still  cannot seem to get breakfast in before I leave for work!) and was going strong until lunch time today.

So, about at the time I was consuming the Luna Bar I realized that I did not have my camera with me today. Hmmm. :(   My phone took a two pictures for me, and they were pretty bad. But here they are!

For lunch I had a cup of turkey gumbo soup and an awesome sandwich. Yesterday I was finally able to get Arnold’s protein bread!! This morning I made a sandwich with Barney Butter and raspberry jam. It was a great sandwich!

Here is a picture of the soup. The freshly ground pepper really helped it out quite a bit!

At 3:30 I had my afternoon snack of Chobani and half a Blueberry Cliff Zbar that I mixed into the yogurt. Yum.

I left work a few minutes after five. Once home I had a few minutes of Chris Matthews and Hardball with Ben… and then got down to business. I did yoga for an hour – in an effort to avoid the gym on the busiest day of the week.  The yoga was a great workout – I was surprised and pleased.

After yoga, I decided to make dinner. I came up with baked chicken (with lots of spices – my favorites!) cous-cous with broccoli and cauliflower mixed in, and a salad of mixed greens and a self – made salad dressing. The dressing consisted of a drizzle or two of olive oil, a splash of balsamic vinegar, ground pepper, a small pinch of salt and a pinch of garlic powder, oh and a little dab of mustard. I think it came out pretty well!  Here is the final picture:

Ohhh…. that’s a photo of the mixed greens before the dressing. Oh well. :(

After dinner I enjoyed one of the last oatmeal cookies that Ben’s mom made for us. They were amazing. We enjoyed every single one of them!

Wow. The cookie looks gigantic in this picture! It was not this large. :)

Anyhow. I am getting ready to head for bed. I think my new tradition of a warm bath before bed will have to start tomorrow night. But I’m definitely looking forward to it tomorrow!

Good night guys. I hope you all have a nice and relaxing rest of the evening!

Hey All -

Well, it was a snowy, stormy, icy, and rainy day here in Boston!  Ben and I both had delays at work this morning. I took the opportunity to sleep in…. and Ben totally surprised me with breakfast in bed! Can you believe it? It was fantastic – especially because I had mentioned before that it was one thing I wanted for my birthday – but with the house guests we’ve had recently – it just never happened. Wow, was I surprised to wake up this morning to coffee, juice and oatmeal!  It was fantastic and was so perfect for a wintery morning!

Obviously the oatmeal kept me full for a long time this morning – and I was fine until lunch time came around.

For lunch I packed a can of Amy’s veggie and barley soup, a piece of Great Harvest bread and a fat free Jello pudding! At lunch I measured out one cup of Amy’s soup and warmed that up in the microwave in the bowl that I keep at the office. I put the remaining soup in a pyrex traveling container and then recycled the can. :)

I seasoned the soup with a packed of pepper, that really added even more nice flavor!  I love Amy’s soups. I just wish that soup was not so high in sodium. I don’t know about you guys – but I HATE sodium – and it is in so many things! But more on that later (as in, I will devote an entire post on sodium sometime soon).
Here is what lunch looked like:

After lunch I had my adora disk for my calcium… and I was set until 3:15 when I had my Chobani yogurt – today I had the strawberry kind.

I left work at 5pm and had to stop at Whole Foods on the way home and do a couple of other errands.  I was ready for dinner when I got home – but I had planned to do an hour of yoga first… so I made a quick snack of a piece of bread, banana and a tablespoon of Barney Butter… the snack was perfect!

Before I settled down to do yoga, I picked up around the house and did a few lingering dishes (what we would not give for a dishwasher!!) After getting all of this squared away, I was ready to concentrate on yoga, breathing and relaxing.

The gym had been really stressing me out this week for some reason. I think it was a combination of a few things – number one it is so crowded with everyone going back in conjunction with their New Year’s Resolutions.  I had also been bothered by my heart monitor, which had started to freak me out. So today I decided to have a day away from the gym and concentrate on relaxation. I had a great hour of yoga at home, in the living room :)

It was after 8 by the time I got around to eating dinner. I made a wrap with chicken, brown rice, lettuce, yellow and orange peppers, salsa and fat free sour cream. It was really good (and kind of pretty)! I could have had two… but instead I had a some extra pepper slices, and in a little while I will have a snack of grapes.

Here is what dinner looked like:

I think that about covers it for the day! I hope you all had a great day, too. See you tomorrow!
